Happy Friday Everyone!!
Summer is upon us! For me, summer kicks off on Memorial Day weekend, even though I know the official start isn't until June 20th. In preparation for the best summer yet, I’ve been daydreaming through my Pinterest mood board, envisioning my ideal Summer 2024.
I miss those northeastern summers when I could visit beautiful beaches daily, grabbing coffee in the morning for a beachside walk. There’s something magical about strolling past gorgeous New England-style homes with big bushes of hydrangeas, only to arrive at a quaint sandy beach. It always brought me so much joy. Summertime is all about being outside, soaking up the sun, getting a nice tan, and indulging in fresh seasonal foods.
This feels like the perfect moment to share a bit about where I grew up and how it’s shaped me. I spent my early years in Fairfield County, Connecticut, where every town has a charming downtown filled with shops and restaurants. It’s just a 50-minute drive from Manhattan. Connecticut, despite what some may think, has some of the most beautiful beaches just outside the city. I lived there for 15 years before my family moved to East Grand Rapids, Michigan. The change from a saltwater ocean to a freshwater lake was quite an adjustment. I loved my time in Michigan, where summers meant boating on the lake and walking into town for dinner and ice cream.
After graduating from college, I landed a job in New York City, where my family had moved back East during my time in school. I loved my years in NYC—people still ask if I miss it, and sometimes I do. The city’s energy and endless opportunities to explore were fantastic, and it was so close to home in Connecticut that I could easily hop on a train for a day or weekend visit. There truly is nothing like a New York summer—people come out of hibernation from the harsh winters, and the city comes alive again.
Almost three years ago, I moved to the nation’s capital, Washington, DC, to advance my career and escape the craziness of New York. Summers here are quite different, which is why I’ve put together an activities list to ensure I make the most of the next few months. Here’s what I’m planning to do in Washington this summer, between trips and travels:
My DC Summer Plans:
Pool Days: Spend lazy afternoons by the pool with a good book.
Reading in the Park: Find a cozy spot and lose myself in a new novel.
Park Picnics: Enjoy the great outdoors with delicious food and good company.
Happy Hours with Friends: Discover new spots for drinks and laughter.
Home Cocktail Nights on the Roof: Mix up some cocktails and enjoy the city views.
Pickleball: Grab some friends and head to the courts for a game.
Hot Girl Walks with Friends: Take long walks catching up with friends and exploring the city.
Grill with Friends: Host barbecues and enjoy summer evenings together.
Crab Feasts: Indulge in some delicious Maryland seafood.
Georgetown Flea Market: Hunt for unique treasures and vintage finds.
Dupont Farmers Market: Pick up fresh produce for a delightful dinner in.
Boat Days on the Potomac: Spend sunny days boating with friends, soaking up the views and enjoying the water.
I’m looking forward to an exciting summer and can’t wait to share my adventures with you!
